Choosing the right dock shelter: Save energy & stop drafts | Tormeister 24

Tormeister 24 Vergleich: Energieeinsparung durch korrekt montierte Torabdichtung

Daniel Schweighöfer |

How to save energy and money with the right dock shelter – an inconspicuous detail with a big impact

Stop drafts, reduce temperature fluctuations, improve hygiene and pest control – with precisely fitting gap seals for gates and doors.

Why dock shelters?

Small gaps in the door act like a window that's always tilted. Cold air flows in, warm air disappears – heating and cooling work against it.

A suitable gap seal interrupts the airflow directly at the source. The result: more stable temperatures, less dust, and significantly more comfortable work.

Bonus: Many of our solutions come with integrated rodent protection – ideal for warehouses, production areas, and food processing areas.

Typical leaks – where energy escapes

Sectional door

  • Floor and side areas (uneven ground, settlements, profiles).
  • Side guide rails: gap to the reveal.

Roller shutter & high-speed door

  • Bottom edge/floor – especially with frequent use.
  • Lateral areas at indoor air pressure.

Loading technology

  • Ramp/bridge to the hall wall (gap 4–30 mm and more).
  • Rear hinge side – hard-to-reach leak.

Steel doors

  • Floor and side joints, often without brush seals.
  • Side joints on non-flat door leaves.

Which solution for which type of gate?

Gate/door type Recommended systems Sealing range (typ.) Assembly Direct link
Sectional door DoorMag / MagSeal Kits variable length/width, stainless steel mesh (rodent protection) Magnetic, optional adapter strap collection
Rolling shutter / high-speed shutter SAMTR / RollMag + Kits different widths (e.g. 290/360 mm) Magnetic, optional adapter strap collection
Loading technology DockMag SAML 35/60 + Hinge (rear) approx. 4–30 mm (depending on model) Magnetic, tool-free collection
Steel doors PedDoorMag SAMT e.g. B. 4–55 mm (depending on model) Magnetic, can be shortened collection

Note: Adapter strips (SMB 100) are available for non-magnetic surfaces. For steel doors: Do not use on fire doors.

Quick dial in 3 steps

  1. Gate/door type & use: Sectional, rolling/high-speed, ramp, steel door – observe operating frequency & hygiene requirements.
  2. Check gap size: With calipers or test strips – roughly: up to ~30 mm (dock/many door solutions), for larger gaps, consult us.
  3. Surface & length: Magnetic? → Direct mount. Non-magnetic? → Adapter tape . Select the length to fit the opening; can be shortened if necessary for doors.

Measurement & assembly

How to measure correctly

  • Length: usable width of the opening (left–right) or door leaf length.
  • Gap: largest dimension in rest position (check several points).
  • Surface: magnetic (steel) OK ; otherwise provide adapter tape.

Assembly coming soon

  • Clean the surface, dry and free of grease.
  • Align the seal, attach it magnetically, and press it on.
  • For doors, trim to length if necessary; deburr edges cleanly.

Important: Door seals are not approved for fire doors. For ramps, seal the rear (hinge side) with special hinge profiles.

Practical examples

Logistics (roller shutter)

Frequent openings, heavy traffic: magnetic roller shutter seal + side protection panels reduce drafts and keep rodents away.

Food (ramp)

DockMag sets seal 4–30 mm gaps on the bridge. A clean transition and improved temperature stability in the receiving area.

Workshop (sectional door)

DoorMag/MagSeal eliminate drafts at floor level. Less dust, a more pleasant climate – noticeable in winter.

Side doors (steel)

PedDoorMag is quick to install, can be shortened, and is magnetically attached. Ideal for basements and utility rooms.

FAQ

How do I find the right width?

Select according to the gap size: for ramps, for example, 4–30 mm. For roller shutter doors, consider the required sealing width (e.g., 290/360 mm).

Does this stick to aluminum/stainless steel?

With SMB 100 adapter tape, yes – for non-magnetic surfaces.

Does this have a measurable impact on heating costs?

Seals reduce infiltration (drafts). Less cold air in, less warm air out – the system operates more smoothly. Figures depend on the property and its use.

Is this suitable for high-speed doors?

Yes, the SAMTR/RollMag systems are designed for this application. Lengths up to 9.2 m are available (set versions).

Can I use door seals on fire doors?

No. Door seals are not approved for fire doors.
