Door leaking air? Choosing the right floor profiles and seals | Tormeister24

Bodengummi Optosensor 55 mm für Garagentorabdichtung

Daniel Schweighöfer |

Sectional door leaking air? Here's how to properly seal it.

Updated: 06.10.2025 · Tormeister24 / Schweighöfer Tortechnik

Typical symptoms & quick check

Drafts, dust clouds, or moisture on the bottom edge of the door? This often means that the seal is missing or has aged.

2-minute check: Check the tread for cracks, assess contact pressure (paper strip test), check for unevenness in the floor, and check the sensor/closing edge.
  • Is the profile brittle/cracked? → Replace.
  • Uneven floor? → Higher profile (e.g. 55 mm) or double lip.
  • Closing edge with optosensor? → Note inner chamber Ø 13 mm or Ø 20 mm.
  • Pressure switch panel? → Select the appropriate DW/Crawford profile.

Selection guide: Which profile fits?

The choice depends on the door manufacturer, safety principle (optosensor/pressure switch), and floor conditions. The table will help you get started.

For pressure switches & special cases

Assembly: short & practical

  1. Check dimensions and system: sensor principle (optosensor/pressure switch), chamber diameter, height, profile holder.
  2. Preparation: Remove old seal, clean bottom edge/profile.
  3. Cutting & inserting: Cut the profile to width; insert the sensor (if available) into the inner chamber.
  4. Insert & test: Insert profile evenly, check door travel, test closing edge.

Note: Only qualified personnel should work on safety rails. If unsure, please contact a service representative.

Practical examples

  • Logistics hall, North Rhine-Westphalia: Replacement for 55 mm optosensor profile → less draft, quieter operation.
  • Workshop, Bavaria: Conversion to DW Ø 25 mm double lip → better compensation on uneven ground.
  • Industry, Lower Saxony: Crawford 342 gate with new 55 mm profile + 37 mm plug → safe pressure switch function.

FAQ

How do I know the correct chamber diameter?

For optosensors, Ø 13 mm (standard) and Ø 20 mm are common. Pushbutton switch strips typically use DW profiles; always check the system specifications.

Is a higher profile sufficient to cope with bumps?

Often yes – 55 mm profiles or double lip compensate more. For steep slopes, additional measures are necessary.

Can I install profiles myself?

Yes, with basic knowledge. Safety edges (sensors/pressure switches) should only be installed and tested with specialist knowledge.

Are there brand profiles for my gate?

Yes, e.g., Alpha Deuren, Novoferm, Crawford, or specifically Hörmann SPU 30/40. See product table above.

What about roller shutters?

The Ø 20 mm roller shutter profile fits the floor profile 105002011. Check sensor compatibility beforehand.
