Measuring for industrial doors: Correctly measuring and ordering spare parts
No more guesswork: This is how you determine the dimensions for rollers, brackets, cables, springs, seals & sensors – and order the right thing the first time.
What this is about – briefly & honestly
Is your gate jerking, squeaking, or stuck? Then you need replacement parts – quickly and correctly. The catch: Without accurate measurements , it gets expensive and frustrating. In this guide, we'll show you how to gather the correct measurements and photos in minutes, avoid common mistakes, and jump directly to the right parts. Clear, straightforward, and tried and tested.

✅ Why taking measurements saves products
Fewer inquiries, fewer returns, faster installation.
Matching parts = smooth running, clean guidance, reliable safety.
From measurement directly to product – without searching or scrolling.
⚙️ What you really need to measure
Roller diameter (e.g., 45–46 mm), shaft diameter (e.g., 12 mm), overall length short/long. Photo of the roller holder.
Hole spacing (center to center), installation height, left/right, elongated hole if applicable. Photo of the panel cutout.
Total length, rope diameter, ends (eyelet/nipple), guide. Photo on floor console & deflection point.
Wire diameter (caliper), inner diameter, spring length, winding direction (L/R). Measure only when the wire is unstressed!
Gap/profile height, width, gate width. Photo of the floor/side panel. Choose a wider profile for uneven floors.
Mounting height (usually 20–40 cm), spacing, cable routing. Check the frame/installation position with a photo and verify whether it's a one-way or reflective type.
🧭 Quick‑Start: Photos & measurements in 60 seconds
- Overall view of the gate (inside), then detail (part/damage).
- Record the measurement in the image using a folding ruler/caliper.
- Take a picture of the control unit/type plate (drive/spring assembly).
- Attach everything to the measurement sheets and send them.
- Assembly videos – a quick glance saves hours.
- Contact us – we'll match the parts for you quickly.

Note: Safety work (springs/ropes/controls) should only be carried out if you know what you are doing.
| component | We need from you | Typical mistakes | Direct link |
|---|---|---|---|
| Casters (2″/3″) | Roller diameter, shaft diameter, short/long length + photo holder | Diameter reversed, wrong length, holder overlooked | casters |
| Roll holders & hinges | Hole spacing, version L/R, photo panel | Mirror image, incorrect hole spacing | Roll holders & hinges |
| Wire ropes | Length, diameter, ends (eyelet/nipple), photo guide | Length estimated, nipples mistaken | Wire ropes |
| Torsion springs | Wire thickness, inner diameter, length, L/R | Measured on the tensioned system (dangerous!) | Torsion and tension springs |
| Seals | Gate width, profile/gap height, photo floor/side | Too narrow a choice for uneven ground | Floor profiles & seals |
| Light barriers | Mounting height, cable route, one-way/reflective | Mounted too high, mirror dirty | Light barriers |
🔧 Installation instructions & error prevention
Rollers aligned, holders free of play. Clean the track – dirt makes a louder noise than any roller.
Cable paths should be symmetrical, avoiding sharp edges. Only measure/replace springs when relaxed.
Light barriers at 20–40 cm. Mirror clean, cable protected. Function test: Stop/Reverse.
Working with springs/ropes is risky. If you're unsure, just let us know – we'll tell you what's suitable and how to do it safely.
💡 Practice, Acknowledgements & News
Thank you for your measurement photos. This will allow us to make a recommendation faster – and you can have the installation done on the same day.
Update: Measurement sheets & assembly videos revised – clearer, shorter, straight to the point.
🧰 Maintenance & Care
- Visual inspection twice a year: rollers, brackets, cables, seals.
- Dirt out, guide clean – no more greasing the rollers.
- Test sensors (stop/reverse), check cable routing.

❓ FAQ
How do I measure the roller diameter correctly?
Measure across the running surface with calipers/measuring sticks. Measure the shaft diameter separately (e.g., 12 mm).
How can I tell the left/right side of the roller holder?
Looking at the goal from the inside: left = left of the goal leaf. Send a photo along with it, then there's no mistake.
How do I determine the wire thickness and direction of the torsion spring?
Measure the wire with calipers, direction: spring end points – “Right” means clockwise (viewed from the right), otherwise counterclockwise. Measure only when the wire is free of tension.
What height should the light barrier be at?
A distance of 20–40 cm has proven effective. Keep the mirror clean, protect the cable path, then perform a function test.
Which sealant is needed for uneven ground?
Choose a wider profile, possibly with magnetic systems. Include a photo of the floor, then we can make a specific recommendation.
