Industrial doors at a glance
The right door type depends on the application: cycles, wind load, opening height, safety chain, energy, hygiene. Below are the most important categories – each with practical benefits.
Industrial sectional doors (BR 60 generation)
A universal solution for logistics, production, and workshops: insulated, easy to repair, and variable fittings. The Hörmann Series 60 – with the appropriate operator/control system – achieves door speeds of up to 1 m/s and is optimized for installation and service.
- Advantages: good insulation, panel variety, visible sections, wicket doors, future-proof control (HCP bus).
- Typical locations: transshipment halls, workshop axes, fire departments, automotive, agriculture.
- Combination tip: Sectional door outside + high-speed door inside = climate lock for high cycle times.
High-speed doors (high-performance)
Where speed, climate, and safety count, high-speed doors come into their own. The Hörmann HS 5040 TurboLux S is officially the fastest vertically opening industrial high-speed door in the world, opening at over 4 m/s .
- Advantages: minimal air exchange, less waiting time, high availability.
- Applications: Food/pharmaceuticals, internal airlocks, explosion-proof zones (depending on model), external closures with wind load proof.
- Combination tip: Combine with dock shelters and a loading concept → constant temperature & secure logistics.
Roller shutters & rolling grilles
Robust all-rounders for large openings and parking use. With the SSG DD coupling, even XXL widths can be realized – ideal for shipyards, hangars, wide facades, or combined retail/parking areas.
- Strengths: durable, variable in steel/aluminum, good ventilation with rolling grilles.
- XXL option: coupled systems close very wide/high openings.
Fire protection gates & curtains
Fire sliding doors and textile curtains secure fire compartments and escape routes. Certified classes (EI values) and smoke protection (Sa/S200) are important. Planning and interfaces (BMZ, SHEV, ASR) are determined on a project-specific basis.
- Options: EI30/EI60/EI90/EI120, smoke protection Sa/S200, automatic closing, GMA control.
- Practical tip: Always consider fire protection in conjunction with operator obligations (testing, maintenance, verification).
Sliding courtyard gates
Cantilever sliding gates reduce winter problems (ice/snow) and can be delivered pre-assembled. Ideal for logistics yards, factory entrances, and freight forwarding companies.
- Advantages: low foundation requirement, stable guide rail, high security with light grid/fence connection.
Swing gates & strip curtains
Simple, effective and quick to install: flexible interior closures for visual contact, hygiene zones and traffic routes, often as a supplement to high-speed doors.
- Dimensions: Width ≈ 2× transported goods, height +500 mm; suspension on on-site steel.
Loading technology: bridges, seals & sluice gates
Loading takes time – and energy. That's why we plan "from the pallet": vehicle mix, docking position, sealing, bridge type, control logic, and safety. This keeps the chain fast, safe, and tight.
Dock levellers (incl. HTL2 ISO)
Telescopic or hinged wedge bridges compensate for heights and gaps between the ramp and the loading area. The HTL2 ISO reduces heat loss thanks to additional insulation panels and a sealing concept – a plus for frozen food hubs and food storage facilities.
- Advantages: less energy loss, better U-values on the ramp, faster, safer crossing.
- Applications: Fresh produce, frozen food, pharmaceuticals, high-throughput ramps, renovations.
Dock shelters (tarpaulins, cushions, inflatable)
Seals close the gap between the building and the truck. Tarpaulin systems are universal, cushions are designed for specific vehicle types, and inflatable ones are available for maximum airtightness or for sensitive goods.
- Selection criteria: vehicle mix, ramp height, docking angle, wind.
- Upgrade: storm drain, LED guidance system, integrated signals.
Inlet locks & DOBO concepts
Docking stations place all loading operations in front of the warehouse. DOBO (docking before opening): The truck docks with its doors closed and only opens once inside the warehouse. This ensures the cold chain and protects against burglary and weather.
- Advantages: Hall space remains usable, energy losses are reduced, safety increases.
Accessories & Safety (Wheel Lock, Signals, Buffers)
Clean docking and secure positioning are mandatory. Wheel locking systems, traffic lights, docking assistance, cameras, and buffers (rubber/PU/steel) form the safety chain – mechanically and logically linked.
Selection matrix: Application → Solution
| Requirement | Recommended solution | Strengthen | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| High frequency, air conditioning/negative pressure | High-speed door (e.g. HS 5040 TurboLux S) | >4 m/s opening, low air exchange | Wind load, planning safety chain |
| Universal, good insulation | Sectional door BR‑60 | up to 1 m/s, service-friendly | Adjust fitting/drive to use |
| XXL openings | Roller shutter/rolling grille SSG DD | very large widths/heights | Consider changing room/wind load |
| Low-energy loading | HTL2 ISO + sealing/front door | significantly better insulation | Detailed planning of ramp logic/control |
| Fire protection section | Fire-resistant sliding gate/curtain | EI classes, smoke protection | Interfaces BMZ/ASR/Escape route |
Practical examples from Mainz, Wiesbaden & Rhine-Main
Logistics hub Wiesbaden-East
High-speed doors act as a lock inside, and sectional doors with a viewing area outside. Loading bays feature HTL2 ISO and tarpaulin sealing – ensuring stable temperatures and cycle times.
Food Hub Mainz-Hechtsheim
Front-loading gates with DOBO logic: Trucks reverse into the bay, doors remain closed on the outside, and only open once inside. Result: Keeps the cold inside, ensuring high security.
